Happy Friday!

I am working on a new guitar. Well, the guitar isn't new, it's used and well loved, but I'm working on customization of the guitar.

So this is the start I made the other day.
First marks. These are temporary
Then I covered it in a circular pattern, all temporary.  I forgot to take any pictures of that, and then the tangling begins

I haven't gotten very far but my hope is to have it done over the weekend.
The hardest part for me so far on this is whether to add color.

I also have a pair of sneakers to share with you, they've been done for a while but the owner hadn't seen them yet so I waited.

I hope you have great plans this weekend and that you make something awesome.

Music as Inspiration

Yesterday I talked about putting together a prompt for my art journal group. Today I'm sharing that with you, because it IS Thursday and I do try to give you a prompt once in a while.
So, if you're in my group, you've seen this already. If not.. here's your challenge this week.

“Without Music, Life would be Blank to Me.” ~Jane Austen

I need music like most people need air. The funny part? I can’t carry a tune in a bucket and as small children, my kids used to ask me “Please don’t sing Mommy.”  My dad had musical gifts and so does my husband and daughter.  I wish I could sing, I used to play the violin but it was always a struggle for me to make music, but oh, do I appreciate it.
Music fuels my creativity like nothing else, in fact, if you put me in a room with some paint, some pens, a lot of paper and some music, I’m pretty sure I’d stay there indefinitely. If you send in wine and chocolate I’m sure of it!
So this week I encourage you to embrace music as inspiration. Maybe you want to incorporate a song into your pages, or maybe you are inspired by a particular band. Maybe just create something based on what you are listening to.

(forgive the pics, but that’s one of my first tangles ever!)

This wasn’t to be my week for the prompt, I’m pinch hitting here… so I don’t have my journal example done, but I have used music as inspiration multiple times in the past.
This was a guitar that I made for my Dad for Father’s day.

As I said, he’s musical. I repurposed one that was well loved and it is playable, but had some scratch and dent. I used the song he used to sing me as a little girl, Country Roads by John Denver to tangle him something that was meaningful to us both, The music is around the outside and there’s a quote about it taking someone special to be a Dad on it, because remembering that song takes me back to being 7 years old. That’s what music does. (If you want to see more pics here's the post where I originally shared it)

This week I’m actually working on a banjo, but my journal pages will be created using a favorite song that always inspires me to create.
I hope you have fun with this, and let it take you where it will.
Music can be a time capsule, a holder of emotions and therapy all at once. When combined with other types of art, it might be the most powerful force of all!

I can’t wait to see what everyone does with this!
*Not sure what happened with the Mr Linky, but I've replaced it!*

Another quick one for today (Day 14)

Today's post is going to be another short one. The guitar is coming along nicely, I was up too late working on it cause I had *gestures vaguely* stuff yesterday that interfered with my creative process and I was hoping to be further along than I am.

The really hard part is done, which was writing out the music around the edge.Music is a foreign language and has so many nuances, etc. It was funny as I was adding the music, all I could hear in my head was my dad's voice counting it out like he used to when I'd practice my violin!
Good times! :D

So here is where I am today.

I promise to do a complete "guitar" post when it's done with all the wip pics and the completed project and the story behind it, but for now, I want to get back to it.

Tomorrow is Father's day, so today's art prompt is cards! Do you need to make a card? Decorate the envelope? Simply remember to go pick some up? That might not be that creative, but I hate trying to make cards the day of something, so if you don't need a Father's day card, what about one for a day in the future?

I have to make 3. One for my Dad (which given his gift is going to be pretty simple, but hopefully he won't mind) then I need to make one for my brother, since it's his very first father's day! And one for my husband too, with a thank you note for giving me the 2 best gifts in the universe.

Oh yikes.I just realized that it's my sister's boyfriends birthday this week, and I'll be seeing him tomorrow too. Guess I need to make a birthday card! So that's 4. Maybe I'll incorporate already completed artwork in those! Either way, I better get back to work!

I procrastinate sometimes...ok, a lot

So Father's Day is Sunday... and I have been wanting to do something for a while but didn't really take any steps to do it and now I REALLY want it done to give to my dad so my posts for the next few days are going to be pretty short and everything is going to be work in progress pics on that so that come Sunday, his gift is done, or at least MOSTLY done.

My dad is a musician. I am an artist. Therefore..... this needs to happen.

Strings removed, scrubbed and touched up. This is a pre-loved and now discarded guitar.
It's fully playable and in pretty good condition. I thought it deserved new life. Upcycle for the win!

There is actually a theme to this, I'll explain more as I go.

Rough outlines of things... it's hard to see in this pic

Thank goodness I work fast. :D
Now onto the challenge! We're on day 13. Wow!
Today's art prompt is MUSIC! Do something with music, either artistically or actually musically. If music isn't your thing then listen to music you love while you create!
I am not musically gifted, but my dad, my husband and my daughter all are, which is amazing for me in many ways, but I am the type of person who needs music in my life like most people need food and air. :)

It's going to be a busy couple days, but a good few days. I love to make things for people, even more when there is a lot of meaning behind them.

Link up your work!
